Open ten CVs from job seekers in Pakistan and eight of them will have a block near the top: date of birth, CNIC number, father's name, marital status, religion, nationality. Open ten from the UK or Canada and none will. Neither group is wrong — they are writing for different readers. The question is which of those readers you are writing for, and what each detail actually does for you.
Date of birth
Pakistan: Common, and many employers expect it. Government and semi-government posts often have age limits, so the date is genuinely needed. Private firms are used to seeing it and will not think less of you for including it.
Gulf: Expected. Gulf recruiters filter on age for some roles and treat a missing date as an omission.
International (UK, EU, North America, Australia): Leave it out. Age discrimination law means employers there prefer not to see it, and including it marks your CV as unfamiliar with local norms.
Verdict: Include it for Pakistani and Gulf applications. Remove it for anything overseas.
CNIC number
This is the one to be careful with. A CNIC number is an identity document. Combined with your name, date of birth and address — all of which are on the same CV — it is enough for someone to open a mobile SIM, register a business, or apply for a loan in your name. Identity fraud using leaked CNIC details is not hypothetical in Pakistan; it is regularly reported.
Ask yourself where the CV goes. If you email it directly to one named employer, the risk is small. If you upload it to a job portal, post it in a WhatsApp group, or hand it to a recruitment agent who forwards it to twenty companies, you have no idea who ends up holding your identity number.
Verdict: Do not put your full CNIC on the CV. If an application form has a CNIC field, fill the form. If an employer needs it for a background check or for HR onboarding, they will ask, and you can give it then. If you feel a CV looks incomplete without it, write "CNIC: available on request".
Father's name
Some government forms and older institutions ask for it, and some employers use it to distinguish between candidates with common names. It carries no privacy risk on its own. Include it if the application asks or if you are applying to a government body; otherwise it is optional.
Marital status
Employers are not supposed to decide on this, but in practice some do — and not always in your favour. A married woman applying for a travelling sales role, for instance, may be filtered out by a manager assuming she cannot travel. Unless the job ad asks, there is no upside to including it.
Verdict: Leave it out unless asked.
Religion
The same logic. It is asked for on some government forms. On a private-sector CV it can only work against you, never for you. Leave it out unless the form has a field for it.
Nationality
Harmless in Pakistan, useful in the Gulf (visa processing), unnecessary overseas unless you hold a passport that gives you the right to work there — in which case say so clearly, because it is an advantage.
Address
A city is enough. Your full house address on a CV that travels around job portals is another gift to fraudsters, and no recruiter needs it until they send you an offer letter. Write "Lahore" or "DHA, Karachi", not "House 14, Street 7".
A sensible default block
For a Pakistani employer:
Date of birth: 12 March 1999 · Nationality: Pakistani · Lahore
For a Gulf employer, add visa status and, if you have one, a driving licence. For an international employer, drop the block entirely and keep only city and contact details.
