What this tool checks, and why

All 12 rules, in plain language.

i
Contact details are present

A CV without a phone number or email cannot be acted on, and recruiters rarely hunt for it.

i
Length is sensible

Under 5 years of experience: one page. More than that: two. Three pages is only for academic or medical CVs.

i
Standard section headings

Screening software and human readers both look for "Experience", "Education" and "Skills". Creative headings confuse both.

i
A short profile at the top

Two or three lines telling the reader who you are professionally. It is the first thing they read.

i
Dates on your roles

Without dates the reader cannot see your progression, and parsers produce a broken history.

i
Bullet points start with verbs

"Built", "Led", "Reduced" describe what you did. "Responsible for" describes a job description.

i
At least some numbers

"Handled complaints" is a claim. "Resolved 40 complaints a week" is evidence.

i
No filler phrases

"Hard-working team player" appears on almost every CV, so it carries no information.

i
Bullet points are short

A bullet longer than about 30 words stops being scannable in a ten-second read.

i
No "I" statements

CV convention drops the pronoun: "Managed a team of six", not "I managed a team of six".

i
A professional email address

An address built from your name reads better than a nickname or a string of numbers.

i
No "references available on request"

It is assumed, so the line only uses up space you could give to your work.
